성수동의 적벽돌로 지어진 3개 층 주택을 상업시설로 리노베이션 하는 프로젝트입니다. 한 층이 약 48sqm인 작은 건물이고, 아직 많은 사람들이 다니지 않는 오래된 골목에 있습니다. 기존 건물의 특징과 오래됨을 살리면서 동시에 대조되는 새로움을 만들려고 했습니다. 골목의 오래됨과 자연스럽게 어울리면서도, 새로움을 통해 골목 코너에서 사람들의 이목을 끄는 건물을 만들려고 했습니다.

오래된 골목에서의 예기치 않은 반전. 그리고 같은 건물에서의 대비. 대비에서 나오는 각 요소의 존재감이 이 건물을 돋보이게 해줍니다. 기존의 외부 계단은 스테인리스로 피복되었고, 기존의 수평 부재는 마감면을 덜어내 거친 콘크리트의 질감을 드러냅니다. 새로움은 덧붙여지고 오래됨은 자신의 단면을 드러냅니다. 끊임없이 변화될 상가 인테리어를 고려하여 외부 스테인리스 벽체가 건물을 대표하는 정체성을 제시합니다.

이 벽체는 금속의 절곡성에 충실한 곡면으로 계획되었으며, 수직적인 역동성을 만듭니다. 곡면의 방향에 따라 공간의 일부가 되기도 하고, 두드러진 시각적 오브제가 되기도 합니다. 매 층 위치가 달라지는 계단의 이형성을 기능적으로 충족함과 동시에 지각적인 다양성을 파생시킵니다. 작은 건물이지만, 외부에서는 예측 불가능한 공간을 경험합니다. 늘 새로운 것이 등장하는 동네입니다.

It is a project to renovate a three-story house built with red bricks in Seongsu-dong into a commercial facility. It is a small building with one floor of about 48sqm, and it is located in an old street that is not yet visited by many people. We tried to create a contrasting newness while preserving the characteristics and oldness of the existing building.

An unexpected experience from old street. And the contrast in the same building. The presence of each element from the contrast makes this building stand out. external stairs are covered with stainless steel, and the existing horizontal member removes the finished surface to reveal the rough concrete texture. Newness is added, and oldness reveals its own section. In consideration of the ever-changing interior of the commercial facility, the exterior stainless steel wall presents the identity that represents the building.

This wall is planned as a curved surface true to the bendability of the metal, creating vertical dynamics. Depending on the direction of the curved surface, it can become a part of the space or a prominent visual object. It functionally satisfies the heterogeneity of the staircase, which varies in the position of each floor, and at the same time derives perceptual diversity. It’s a small building, but from the outside you experience an unpredictable space. There’s always something new coming up.
